If you follow Jack's bloodline far enough back (nine generations) it all leads to Gian Giacomo Girolamo Casanova, better known as Chevalier Jacques Casanova de Seingalt, and his tryst with Bellino (an italian woman who posed as a castrato), the details on whether or not Jack is related to the inbreeding between Casanova's children or not is a bit fuzzy so most people tend to glaze over it. The story is that Casanova had a child with Bellino (Leonilda) and Casanova's bastard son from another woman (also named Jack) had an affair together, while those details are well known, it's unsure whether or not they bore a child but Jack Bentley's bloodline definitely traces back to Casanova. It's been believed that the males in the Casanova bloodline carry the power of networking, no one knows how the Casanova family does it but they can make friends in a new town in no time at all, friends who will back them up financially when they've only just met them. It's also been said that Casanova's networking abilities were the product of his interest in witchcaft and the reason he was expelled from Venice. Then again, it seems there are a lot of things people believe to be true about the Casanovas that were just blatent lies. Jack was born to Gian Girolamo and Anna DeMarco, out of wedlock (it's a family thing), and was raised by his mother until the age of eight when she died of cancer. As a child, Jack was a cheerful boy even with never knowing his father he was always content living with just his mother, she ran a nightclub in London so they lived comfortably. He had lots of friends at school was but his teachers always made sure to mention that while he was a brilliant child he had problems with talking too much and needing to pay attention more. When Anna died, his father was contacted to take custody and responsibility for Jack. Gian knew that he must have had children scattered around but their mothers never contacted him, when Anna passed he took Jack in with open arms and while he wasn't the best father he did what he could. It turned out Gian was something of a conartist, more than a petty thief, Gian was known for scamming people out of their most expensive possessions without the victim realizing what was happening. And while Jack was usually left behind while his father worked jobs, he began running cons with his father at the age of twelve. It was during this time he met Ila Grlscz while his father worked on a job with Stephen, this connection would eventually pan out for both Ila and Jack though they wouldn't realize it then. Jack spent the next five years learning the art of the con from his father, learning how to use the "power of the Casanova" as his father called it. All those years of Jack making friends like it was as simple as breathing, all those little quicks about people that he'd read so easily, it wasn't attentiveness, it was a gift. A gift his father would show him how to use to the best of his abilities. By the time Jack was running cons on his own, his father had decided long before that Jack was ready to go solo and took off for his next scam, leaving Jack nothing but his contact rolodex. It took Jack a while to recover from his father's disappearance but he understood why he did it and tried not to hold it against him. Jack kept on pulling jobs, usually small thefts or cons, and would leave town before anyone had a chance to contact the authorities. After a few years of working on his own, he wound up in contact with Ila again and did the occasional job with her and her crew. As of last year, he moved to Rio and filled a position in Nox Militis. He with his "gift" he usually bounced around on tasks; he could gather information, be an inside man, or be used as a plant and distraction. |

Jack is an easy-going guy and doesn't have much of a temper, he's usually cheerful (but not annoying) and very charming. He isn't much of a joker but he does enjoy a good laugh from time to time. He doesn't fight often but if a job calls for it he can be quite the instigator but will never throw the first punch. |

As a Casanova, he was born to be attractive. Jack is tall and slender with dark hair and honest eyes. He has a practiced but genuine smile and a very casual stature. He can be intimidating if he needs to be (his height definitely helps that) or sympathetic if the situation arises. He has very expressive eyebrows but his hand gestures are kept tight to his body until he can sense that someone is comfortable around him. |
